Åke Freij is an Affiliated Researcher at Stockholm School of Economics, House of Innovation, where he runs two research projects aiming to increase understanding of the interplay between regulatory compliance and digitization to create innovation. He earned his PhD in 2017 with the thesis "Mastering the impact of regulatory change".
He is also founder of Freij Insight, where he advises clients on the future of regulatory management and Regtech. He specializes in topics including strategic innovation from regulations and balancing the risks and benefits of MIFID2, AMLD, GDPR, and DORA. Åke has a background with roles as an entrepreneur, CFO and COO in the financial services sector, strategy consultant, Managing director of a regulated pensions consulting firm, as well as global programme manager.
